Hazelwood looking to go one better
Bigmate Racing’s Todd Hazelwood has his sights set on wins this weekend, as the Supercars Dunlop Super2 Series heads to Queensland for the first time this season as part of the fourth round of the series.
The 21-year-old finished second for the round last year on the streets of Townsville, and is looking to go one better this time around.
“I’m super excited to be racing in Townsville this weekend … it’s been nearly two months since I last raced and after a tough third round, I’m really hoping to bounce back in style,” Hazelwood said.
“It’s one of my favourite race meetings of the year, the town has great atmosphere and we finished second in 2016, so hopefully one better this year.”
The team has come off the bat from a successful test day at Queensland Raceway a few weeks ago, with the team at Bigmate Racing and Matt Stone Racing excited for the challenging Reid Park circuit.
“With the circuit being both a street circuit and permanent, it provides plenty of challenges as you really have to attack. Mentally it’s tough as the track is very bus with lots of high and low speed turns, and plenty of kerbs to use—as a driver, it’s super rewarding getting a good lap around this track,” Hazelwood said.
“The team and I have had great preparation for this weekend and we’re really looking forward to what we can achieve.
“I would also like to thank our team partners for making this weekend possible, and also a very special welcome to APC by Schneider Electric, Optus, Recar Australia, King’s Fibreglass and Pt Vincent Caravan Park who will be on our Bigmate Holden Supercar this weekend.”
Heading into the fourth round, Hazelwood is currently sitting second in the points to Paul Dumbrell.
The Townsville Supercars action begins on Friday 7 July, with all sessions live through Fox Sports 5.
